Once it is open, hours will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Skaters can use the rink at no cost and at their own risk.
A schedule will be made to allow times for experienced and novice skaters. The area has lighting. A placard will be placed along Freeport Road to indicate when the rink is open.
Crookston said the area will have a fire pit and benches, and they hope to serve hot chocolate and other concessions. Organizers also are looking for donations of skates so people who don't have them can use them for free at the site.
“It'll be a great place. You can sit and watch the river and skate,” Crookston said.
